KINDERGARTEN OVERVIEW
The Kindergarten class will focus on themes revolving around the Jewish calendar, stories from the Torah, and living Jewish values. Students will learn the names and seasons of the Hebrew months and when the different holidays occur as well as becoming familiar with the different attributes of Shabbat. They will learn the blessings for the candles, Kiddush, and Motzei. They will create their own candlesticks, candles, Kiddush cup, and Challah board and cover. Students may make a “Shabbat box” to use with their families and share their experience with the class. The students will also learn many different Shabbat songs. Students will continue to hear traditional stories from the Torah including creation and Noah’s ark, but also of the patriarchs and matriarchs, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah. Students will explore and discuss Derech Eretz, living Jewishly. This may include Tzedakah, Hachnasat Orchim, and Tikkun Olam. They will also continue to work with different Hebrew letters furthering their ability to recognize, identify, and distinguish the Hebrew letters.
